KAIROS PRISON MINISTRY – DAVID WADE ADVISORY COUNCIL
WHERE WE ARE – JUNE, 2025
After more than five years of praying, watching, and waiting, the David Wade Advisory Council has finally been allowed to re-enter David Wade Correctional Center to participate in Continuing Ministry. On Saturday, March 22, 2025, seven Kairos volunteers met with twenty-eight residents in the Chapel at David Wade Correctional Center near Homer, Louisiana, for a Kairos Reunion. For three hours, the gathered brothers in Christ sang songs, shared in small groups using the Kairos grouping questions and prayed together. It was a welcome and blessed time for all.
After the success of the first Kairos Reunion, the David Wade Advisory Council received permission to hold a second Kairos Reunion in the Chapel at David Wade on Saturday, May 24, 2025, from 12:00 noon until 3:00 p.m. At that time, five Kairo volunteers met with twenty-two residents in the Chapel for singing, prayer and sharing in small groups using the Kairos grouping questions. At the second Reunion, the Warden and Chaplain allowed the Kairos volunteers to bring in snacks and soft drinks. The residents who attended enjoyed the snacks and soft drinks while visiting with each other and the Kairos volunteers.
In order to participate in the Reunions, each Kairos volunteer was required to complete the State of Louisiana Department of Corrections Volunteer online training and obtain a Certificate of Completion, as well as completing all other required forms and agreements and then passing a criminal background check. After successfully completing all requirements, the Kairos volunteers received clearance to enter David Wade Correctional Center to participate in the Kairos Reunion.
The David Wade Advisory Council is hoping and praying that the Kairos Reunions will continue every other month and that a Kairos One-day Retreat can be planned for Fall, 2025. There is also a possibility that permission might be granted for a full three and one-half day Kairos weekend for new participants at David Wade in the Spring of 2026.
